Development and checking of the characteristic parameters
In Germany, self-compacting concrete (SCC) has previously not been used as high-strength concrete for strength classes higher than C 55/67 as specified in DIN EN 206-1:2001-07 [1] and/or DIN 1045-2:2008-08 [2]. The DAfStb code of practice on self-compacting concrete “SVB Richtlinie” provides that SCC may be used only up to strength class C 70/85 [3]. However, the use of SCC offers itself in particular for the application case “high-strength concrete”. SCC of the powder type can be used without the addition of silica fume already beginning with strength class C 70/85 [4].
As high-strength concrete in general may only be manufactured in monitoring class 3, no additional supervision would be required for the use of a high-strength self-compacting concrete (HSCC), instead of a high-strength vibrated concrete. The manufacture of a high-strength concrete as self-compacting concrete would moreover have the advantage that the workability, which in high-strength vibrated concrete can be markedly adversely affected by the inclination to stickiness of the silica fume, could be guaranteed by the self-compacting properties of the HSCC.
