Performance-based quality control in Norway

Durability and service life of concrete structures

A probability-based approach to durability design and a performance-based concrete quality control system can be used to achieve an increased and more controlled durability and service life of large-scale concrete structures.

In recent years, an extensive amount of research has been carried out in order to better understand and control several of the most important deteriorating processes acting on concrete structures in severe environments, and never before has so much basic information and knowledge been available pertaining to concrete durability. The great challenge to the professional society is, therefore, to utilize and transform all this existing knowledge to a larger extent into generally accepted engineering practice.
Extensive experience demonstrates that the durability of concrete structures is related...
