Innovation: Multifunctional coating for concrete

In reality, concrete and concrete surfaces are subject to a large number of influences that lead to technical, functional or visual deterioration of precast elements or concrete products. These include, for example, soiling, efflorescence, vandalism (such as graffiti), or the growth of algae, lichens, and mosses on the surface. Pores in the surface enable gradual water ingress and subsequent concrete corrosion, which results in technical and functional deficiencies.

A varnish, impregnating agent, organic clear lacquer, or anti-graffiti paint is often applied to concrete surfaces to protect them against the above phenomena. However, these materials only have a short-term effect in most cases because of the alkalinity and porous structure of concrete.

No efflorescence, no soiling

Nano-X GmbH developed the x-protect EC 70 product range that provides a completely new approach to concrete protection. These coatings are based on an innovative, glass-like, quick-setting high-solid binder that can be easily rolled or painted onto the surface of fresh or hardened concrete. As a result, existing pores are closed and a firm chemical bond to the concrete is established without completely obstructing its breathability.

According to the manufacturer, application of the x-protect EC 70 range achieves the following effects: prevention of efflorescence whilst additionally intensifying the shade of colored concrete, 99% prevention of biological growth without added biocides, prevention of soiling (resistance to oil, easy-to-remove graffiti), concrete coloring (product is available in grey, black, white, terracotta and anthracite shades), adjustment of surface gloss from shiny to matte, setting of anti-slip properties according to class R 11 (certified), photocatalytic or easy-to-clean effect (special products).
