Punching shear design in practice

With introduction of Eurocode 2 in Germany (DIN EN 1992-1-1/NA [1] [2]) in 2012, the punching shear design provisions for flat slabs and column bases were revised compared to DIN 1045-1 [3]. Particularly, the definition of control sections was revised leading to an iterative design procedure for compact column bases. The revision was also used to solve safety-related issues in the former German code provisions without changing the structure of the design equations given by Eurocode 2 (EN 1992-1-1 [4]) significantly.
