Underground car park reprofiling and surface protection
Like in many other German cities, the Rheydt city center is suffering from a significant loss of functional diversity of its urban space, which is due to the dynamic development experienced in the past few years. A long-term, sustainable urban design approach that promotes prime-quality spaces was required to counter this trend. Thus, a concept was developed to revitalize the inner city area of Rheydt, which included the redesign of the market square, among other activities. It was decided to also refurbish the public underground car park as part of this redesign.
