New Environmental Product Declaration Liquid Concrete Color

For years, Remei & BPB GmbH & Co. KG and Betra GmbH have considered environmental responsibility as a fundamental part of their corporate actions. Reducing environmental impacts and protecting natural resources are therefore continuous taskswithin their corporate policy. In recentmonths and weeks, a significant demand for Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for various additives and concrete admixtures has been observed.

As a result, the first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for „Iron Oxide- and Carbon-Based Liquid Concrete Color“ is available. Together with a service provider “KIWA”, the company has determined the environmental indicators as part of data collection, life cycle assessment, and technical documentation. What does an EPD contain?

The EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) provides a fact-based information basis for assessing a product‘s sustainability. It includes technical information, environmental indicators, as well as manufacturing and transportation details. Additionally, it examines the product‘s lifecycle impact, recycling, and disposal of the final product.

The EPD consists of diverse information, including the raw materials used in manufacturing, an evaluation of the production process itself, as well as transport and usage at the site of application. All these environmental and process indicators, as well as any testing certificates, are necessary for a detailed assessment. This allows the entire lifecycle of a product to be accurately described. Independent verification ensures diligent and trustworthy data provision, valid for 5 years. Due tothe revision of the Construction Products Regulation at the end of 2024, the EPD will become mandatory as part of the declaration of performance. Currently, the calculation of environmental indicators is based on DIN 15804. This is also expected to serve as the basis for the EU Construction Products Regulation.
