CCL completes Spiroll acquisition
Specialist engineered solutions provider, CCL, has acquired Spiroll, completing the transition of the hollowcore specialist into the CCL group of companies that began three years ago.
The move continues a long-standing partnership between the two companies, which first saw CCL invest in Spiroll in 2001. Spiroll has been selling CCL’s prestressing equipment as part of its equipment portfolio for the past 14 years and completion of the acquisition now opens up new markets and greater synergies for both companies.
Explains Matthew Emson, chief financial officer at CCL: “Completion of this acquisition is an important milestone in CCL’s diversification strategy and global precast market capabilities. Around 75 per cent of Spiroll’s market is outside the UK which aligns with CCL’s international focus and creates a basis for further acquisitions in the future.
“Spiroll’s market-leading hollowcore technology, expertise and resources will enable us to offer a range of precast solutions to meet the needs of major projects worldwide and CCL’s global reach and resources will also provide a catalyst for Spiroll’s continued growth and total factory solutions offering.”
Formed in the 1960s, Spiroll provides hollowcore production systems, consultancy and turnkey solutions for both established manufacturers and new start-ups. The first phase of the acquisition in 2013 enabled the company to acquire Canadian-based competitor, Dynacore, and Spiroll has since combined its own technology with Dynacore’s expertise to launch its acclaimed ‘Vortex’ extruder.
Spiroll has also invested in new manufacturing and IT systems over the past three years, enhancing its production management and stockholding capabilities, and has increased its business development and engineering teams, enhancing its turnkey solutions capabilities.
“CCL’s initial investment in Spiroll has generated significant growth for the company,” explains general manager Paul Tate. “Completion of the acquisition means that we are now in an excellent position to capitalise on market opportunities as part of a global group with significant supply chain partners and in-house expertise that we can utilise as part of our ambitious growth strategy.
“Customers can still expect our high levels of technical support, project management and advanced equipment but we now also expect to extend our international reach still further and build on our turnkey offering with a bigger team across a wider geographical area.”
