Economic efficiency of high-performance pipes confirmed
For more than 100 years Dywidag is a synonym for groundbreaking innovations in the field of concrete construction. The building material concrete achieved its first efficient successes in Germany, according to the chronicle, in the field of concrete pipe manufacturing particularly with “sewerage water pipes of Dyckerhoff & Widmann”, which clearly differ from conventional solutions owing to the special manufacturing method not only in the past but also at present and thus have opened up large markets. As a company belonging to Consolis, DW-Betonrohre GmbH complements the program of the international group with its products and complete systems.
Already since 1962, the factory of DW in Dormagen (Germany) has been producing concrete products for pipeline construction, in particular for the waste water sector. The company being rich in tradition offers complete systems in the field of special underground and sewer construction: concrete and reinforced concrete pipes, manhole systems as well as precast concrete segments for tunnel construction. The product range for drainage technology and water supply includes jacking pipes, pipes for open laying, retention basins, sewer reservoirs, manhole constructions, special designs and special customized solutions, such as just recently innovative pressure pipes for a new coal-fired power station.
Acid-resistant, self-compacting concrete grades are meanwhile customary for DW-Betonrohre and are successful even in case of challenging construction projects both in an open excavation and in tunneling, and in respect of a long life cycle they have been applied even economically. Furthermore, the sewer systems may be fitted with epoxy resin components and/or inliner technology. For the growing market of pipe rehabilitation, technologists of DW in co-operation with innovative-minded constructors have developed a pipe-in-pipe system of long service life. The company’s own concrete laboratory and engineering department are continually developing new and quite individual concepts and formulations, which are mostly far beyond applicable standards relevant in Germany as well as Europe with a life expectancy of the systems of 100 years and even more. In a current study the RWTH Aachen University has confirmed that the high-performance reinforced concrete pipes of the latest generation are very cost-efficient. Owing to the manufacturing method of the DW pipes as well as quality assurance systems implemented in detail by the manufacturer and the network operator, physical life spans are achieved which are far beyond present estimates and service life calculations.
