Many employers use the winter period to train their staff. To this end, some manufacturing plants enabled their employees to take part in the nationwide unique further training courses for precast concrete experts and precast concrete fitter at the Aus- und Weiterbildungszentrum Bau (AWZ Bau gGmbH) in Kreuztal this February. The balanced mix of theoretical teaching units and accompanying factory tours and practical exercises was very well received by the newly qualified precast concrete experts and precast concrete fitters, who will be able to take on more complex and new tasks in their precast concrete plants in the future.
Precast concrete expert training course
In February 2025, 12 employees from precast concrete plants took part in the precast concrete expert course at AWZ Bau. All participants passed the exams on their first attempt; one participant was the best exam taker with 93.76%. With the specialist knowledge they have now acquired, the new precast concrete experts are able to take on more and more responsibility and also demonstrate practical and social skills in several areas of a precast concrete plant.
Two factory tours rounded off the further training programme offered by AWZ Bau and FDB. The plants of FUCHS Fertigteilwerke Siegen GmbH and Runkel Fertigteilbau GmbH in Wilnsdorf showed the course participants their operating and production processes without reservations or restrictions.
The instructors attested to the group's high level of interest in the course material and their already existing and well-founded specialist knowledge, which served as a good basis for teaching the course material - ‘a strong group’, according to the instructors.
The course participants praised the practical relevance of the lecturers, who were able to convey their knowledge in a comprehensible way using ‘real examples’ in a relaxed learning atmosphere.
The precast concrete expert course attracts participants from all over Germany to the Siegerland region. It comprises 90 teaching hours and, in addition to the respective specialist areas, the topics of law, organisation and employee management are also on the timetable. Around 15 lecturers from the construction industry pass on their specialist knowledge to the course participants and prepare them for their future tasks.
Precast concrete fitter course
Another course organised by AWZ Bau in cooperation with the FDB qualifies participants as ‘Precast concrete fitter’.
In four modules of 45 hours each, topics such as risk analysis, tender preparation, reading plans and measuring, building material science, joining techniques and assembly are trained in a practical exercise.
Module 2 ‘Reading plans and surveying’ did not take place this winter due to a lack of registrations.
Modules 1, 3 and 4 were carried out as planned. A factory tour was offered for each module. As is the case every year, the dialogue with colleagues on technical issues was the icing on the cake for all course participants. The insight into the processes of another plant and the qualified answers from the experts from the plant to questions about assembly during the practical exercise on site were very well received.
The plants of OTTO Quast Fertigbau Lindenberg (Module 1) in Freudenberg, the Hering Group in Burbach (Module 3) and W. Hundhausen Bauunternehmung GmbH at the Siegen-Eisern site (Module 4) were visited. The ‘Assembly’ practical day took place at Bauunternehmung Günther GmbH & Co. KG in Netphen (Module 4).
Only one participant in Module 3 did not pass this year's examination; all of the other 12 course participants successfully completed the learning assessments at the end of the respective module.
The ABC of precast concrete assembly
For the next round in 2026, the ‘Precast Concrete Fitter’ course has been redesigned and streamlined to three weeks. The course will be offered with the three modules A, B and C over three consecutive weeks. Each module can also be booked individually.
Conclusion of the course participants for the two courses
The wide range of course topics, the collegial exchange of information, the different ways in which knowledge was imparted by the diverse personalities of the lecturers ensured that there was never a dull moment and motivated participants to learn. The general framework conditions and the organisation by AWZ Bau were expressly praised.
