3D Molds to Promote the Manufacturing of Modular Housing in Chile

Moldtech reinforces its presence in Chile with the supply of three 3D molds for housing, acquired by the company Facoro Prefabricados de Hormigón, intended for the construction of modular precast concrete residential buildings. These molds allow the manufacture of prefabricated modules integrating the slab and the walls in a single piece. Thanks to this technology, the Chilean company optimizes its construction processes, reducing production and assembly times on site and maximizing the quality of its works.

Innovation in modular construction

“Facoro”, was founded in 1972 as a precast concrete factory for electric poles, has evolved to become a benchmark in the production of prefabricated elements for various industries in Chile. With five plants in operation, its commitment to innovation has been key to its success in the precast area.

Modular residential buildings represent an efficient and sustainable construction solution. Using prefabricated 3D modules, these constructions offer great versatility in architectural design, adapting to both single-family houses and high-rise buildings.

The construction process is significantly optimized, reducing execution times and allowing work in any season of the year thanks to controlled factory environments. In addition, prefabricated modules offer excellent thermal insulation, which contributes to energy efficiency and reduced air conditioning costs.

The durability of concrete also minimizes long-term maintenance costs. Although the initial investment may be comparable to traditional construction, the efficiency of the process can translate into an overall reduction in costs.

The versatility of 3D molds allows customization of designs, adapting to the specific needs of each project. This facilitates the implementation of innovative architectural solutions that combine functionality and aesthetics. Modular construction with 3D precast concrete modules also offers greater structural resistance against natural disasters, making it a safe and durable option.

Technical details of the 3D mold for modular housing

The molds supplied by Moldtech are designed in accordance with client’s specifications, allowing the manufacture of precast elements with variable lengths between 5 and 7 meters, a fixed width of 3 meters and variable heights between 2.50 and 3 meters. It includes formwork for doors, windows and ceilings, as well as a hydraulic system for opening and closing of the mold itself, and a pneumatic vibration system to guarantee the quality of the concrete compaction.

Main features

Flexible dimensions:

Length of the manufactured modules: variable between 5 and 7 meters;

Width of the manufactured modules: fixed at 3 meters;

Height of the manufactured modules: variable between 2.50 and 3 meters.

Built-in elements:

Formwork for doors, windows and ceilings, allowing custom configurations.

Operation systems:

Hydraulic system for opening and closing of the mold, ensuring efficiency and safety during the manufacturing process and demolding;

Hydraulic system for shrinking of the inner mold or “core”, ensuring the release of the concrete piece for demolding;

Pneumatic vibration system to guarantee optimal concrete compaction and improve structural quality.

Commitment to the future and innovation in each Project

3D molds allow “Facoro” to produce modular elements with customizable configurations for residential projects. The collaboration between “Facoro” and “Moldtech” strengthens the commitment of both companies to the development of advanced solutions for modular construction. This integrated approach redefines the industry, making the process more productive, adaptable and environmentally friendly.

Modular construction can reduce execution times by up to 50%, reducing on-site assembly times compared to panel systems. This makes it possible to reduce the environmental impact of a work, minimize the financial costs of the project and increase production capacity in annual cycles, which translates into greater business benefits. Furthermore, the modular construction system allows the waste generated on site to be reduced by up to 90%, thanks to controlled manufacturing in industrial environments. When we talk about sustainability, we talk about modular architecture.

Looking forward

Using cutting-edge technologies and solid strategic alliances, Moldtech accompanies its clients to lead the industrialized construction of the future, offering innovative solutions that exceed current standards.

Moldtech is proud to highlight that its client, the company Facoro, in consortium with TWH and STO-Chile, has obtained special financing supported by Corfo for the design and assembly of a 6-story pilot building in a solutions park for industrialized housing development. This project was developed within the framework of the sixth version of the PAC (Project Awarely) contest, promoted by STO-Chile, which called on the architecture sector to present projects based on the 3D modular construction system. The main focus was the development of DS49 housing, contributing to combating the country‘s housing deficit with innovative solutions, attractive designs and high-quality materials. In addition, optimization concepts in the construction sector were reconsidered, complying with the update of thermal regulations.

It should be noted that Facoro‘s implementation is the first in Chile to offer industrialized solutions of 3D reinforced concrete modules with prefabricated partition walls and pre-installed continuous thermal exterior closing.

Market impact and future prospects

Moldtech is committed to the integration of automated processes and the development of versatile equipment that allows companies in the sector to improve their operational capacity without compromising quality.

With a long-term strategic vision, the company continues to expand its presence in international markets and explore new applications for the industrialization of construction methods. This evolution not only reinforces its leadership in the sector, but also contributes to the transformation of the industry, offering solutions adapted to the current and future challenges of large-scale construction.

The modular construction market in Chile is constantly evolving. The implementation of industrialized solutions such as 3D molds represents a significant competitive advantage in terms of costs and efficiency. With the growing demand for affordable and sustainable housing, this technology is emerging as a key alternative for the future of construction in the country.

“Facoro” is going on to evaluate new investments in technology and expansion of its productive capacity, with the aim of consolidating its leadership in the sector. The adoption of automated processes and the integration of innovative materials will allow us to continue optimizing modular construction, offering more sustainable solutions adapted to market needs.
