(57) One of the key net-zero challenges is hydrogen transportation with a viable infrastructure delivering it from where it is produced to the point of end users since delivering of hydrogen is still a local, much smaller sized than Liquid natural gas pipeline due to technical and economic barriers, including the embrittlement of the installed steel pipeline on its life cycles, the degradation of the reinforced plastic composites, the high processing cost of ceramic matrix composites, the need for reducing the cost of water splitting reaction. Alternative solutions are needed to resolve the above issues. Inspired by the plant growth in nature, coupled by the piezoelectric effect of microcrystalline silica sand with bio-inspired self-healing chemical additives and mixed in concrete materials, a simplified design of concrete pipeline units is disclosed here that not only stores the hydrogen in a sealing confinement but also manufacture hydrogen, simultaneously releasing oxygen into atmospheres. Experimental examples are disclosed here to demonstrate the utility of the unit‘s applicability. The outlook of the products is bright for long-distance transportation of hydrogen in the hydrogen superhighway.
