FBS reinforced concrete pipes used in the Alps

 It is a construction project in an exceptional backdrop: Maintenance and renewal measures are being carried out at the barrage dam of Lake Silvretta by order of Vorarlberger Illwerke AG from 2009 to 2012.


The artificial lake having a size of 1.31 km² located in the Austrian Alps in the federal state of Vorarlberg is situated 2,030 m above sea level (above NHN) in a depression of the Silvretta mountain group. During the period of construction, the water of the artificial lake is drained and the river ILL, that has its source in the nearby Ochsentaler glacier and is dammed in the lake Silvretta, is diverted around the construction site via an about 200 m long pipeline made of reinforced concrete pipes.
