Winter sports in a precast structure
Since June 2008, a new indoor skiing facility has been built at the Olympics Training Center in Oberhof. This project has been designed and built to cater to the needs of athletes competing in cross-country skiing, biathlon and Nordic combined. This facility should provide a training opportunity to the DSV athletes no matter the season. The building will be used already for the preparations for the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010. As a major winter sports sponsor, DKB bank has once again lent its name to this arena.
There are currently only two indoor facilities worldwide that cater to the needs of cross-country skiing: in Torsby, Sweden, and Turku, Finland. In summer 2009, the German cross-country skiing indoor facility will open its doors for top athletes, young people active in winter sports, and tourists. Athletes will then train on a layer of artificial snow of more than 30 cm. The contract for the design and construction of this project was awarded to the company Goldbeck. This contractor chose to realize a precast design.
