GFRP Reinforcement: environmentally friendly
and promoting healthy living
The glass fiber reinforcement „Schöck ComBAR“ (the name ComBAR derives from “composite rebar”) was granted the seal of approval of the IBR called “tested and recommended by IBR” – Institut Baubiologie Rosenheim. The seal of approval gives consumers and manufacturers an orientation in terms of criteria related to building biology when it comes to select products.
The IBR evaluated radioactivity, heavy metals, biocides, fine particles, solvents and odorous substances of the glass fiber rebars “Schöck ComBAR” in various laboratory tests using specimens of diameters between eight and 32 millimeters. It is shown in all tests that the results clearly come below the limiting values stipulated for products being safe with respect to building biology.
Environmentally-friendly disposal
The tests and evaluations carried out by the IBR are furthermore based on a holistic approach. This means that the IBR does not only examine the physiological effects of products on human beings and the environment. It is also necessary that manufacturing, processing, application and disposal are effected in an environmentally- and health-friendly way.
The glass fiber reinforcement is primarily used in structural and civil engineering. Due to its special properties it is possible to use the glass fiber solution even when steel reinforcements reach their limits. “Schöck ComBAR” features a higher tensile strength, it is resistant to corrosion, non-magnetic, easy machined and lighter than steel.
