Building Innovation Award: “Construction must progress”
Back in 2001, construction engineer Eberhard Schöck launched the Award for Innovation in Building and Construction through his foundation under the motto “Construction must progress”. This year’s winners are three graduates from the universities of Aachen, Braunschweig and Karlsruhe. Supported by Schöck Bauteile GmbH, Eberhard Schöck Stiftung, the foundation, presents the awards on the occasion of the Schöck Industry Forum held in Ulm.
Each year, awards go to three outstanding entries by junior construction engineers outlining innovative approaches to structural engineering. In conjunction with this talent award, each winner receives a prize money of EUR 2,500. Now in the 19th year, the most recent awards were presented to M. Sc. Stefan Ehrke, Technische Universität Braunschweig, M. Sc. Carmen Marock, RWTH Aachen University, and M. Sc. Tim Hammer, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
All of these are universities with many award winners in previous years. The projects and theses submitted for consideration make a major contribution to advancing key research topics in structural engineering. At the same time, they lay the foundation for future-proof, cost-efficient and durable buildings and structures. Entries excel with their high degree of engineering precision. The speaker of the panel of judges, Dr. Harald Braasch, pointed out that almost all of the submitted entries were of a similarly high quality standard. Fostering innovation
Prior to the award ceremony, the three winners were invited to a two-day coaching seminar at the premises of Schöck Bauteile GmbH in Baden-Baden. The program included a guided tour through the production facilities, insights into development work, and an in-depth training session to acquire and strengthen public speaking and presentation skills. Eberhard Schöck, who established the Schöck Foundation, launched the Building Innovation Award with the aim of fostering the ability to innovate in the construction sector so that it can follow in the footsteps of the automotive, IT and mechanical engineering industries.
