Current specifications and new developments
Reinforcing steel in coils has been produced since the mid-1980s and is used and processed at bending shops and precast plants. Since then, the steel grades B500A (previously BSt 500 KR) and B500B (previously BSt 500 WR) have been continuously improved and subjected to “new” rules and standards. Following the earlier approval and quality control guidelines published in 1985 and 1993, reinforcing steel in coils was included in the DIN 488 standard in 2009. Since then, it has been subject to the same degree of standardization as bar steel. Existing approvals were withdrawn as a result.
