Implications for monolithic structures
Buildings are subject to a wide range of constraint forces as a result of their distinct statically indeterminate structure and their complex, mostly monolithic support conditions. These actions are difficult to capture but may have a significant influence on the structural design. After the initial guidance on monolithic construction published by Falkner [1] almost 30 years ago, the design-related knowledge of the physical phenomena that lead to constraint actions and the means to perform related structural analyses have evolved significantly.
