Repair mortar complements concrete replacement portfolio
For many years, the systems Nafufill LM and Nafufill KM 250 have been used for concrete repair purposes with great success. With Nafufill KM 220 and Nafufill KM 230, MC-Bauchemie has now developed two further concrete replacement systems, offering new options to planners faced with finding the right repair solution for specific tasks.
Whereas concrete repair in Germany normally is not carried out in accordance with EN 1504, but is still planned and tendered predominantly in compliance with the requirements specified in the national standards ZTV-ING (Additional Technical Conditions of Contract and Guidelines for Engineering Structures) or DAfStb (German Committee for Reinforced Concrete), in many other countries the European repair standard EN 1504 is exclusively applied for such work, not least because of the strength classes specified therein. EN 1504 Part 3 divides repair mortar (concrete replacement) in classes: Starting from R1 to R2 and R3 to R4 with compressive strengths from 15 to 45 N/mm², which is quite reasonable, given the different classes applying to ageing concrete.
Now, there are four types of repair mortar available with Nafufill LM, Nafufill KM 220, Nafufill KM 230 and Nafufill KM 250, that not only meet the requirements of EN 1504 Part 3, but also provide planners with the security they need in accomplishing the quite different performance requirements.
New Nafufill mortars of classes R2 and R3
Nafufill KM 220 is a single-component, polymer-modified and fiber-reinforced repair mortar suitable for the repair of normal, lightweight and chipped brick concrete in structurally irrelevant areas of industrial buildings, civil engineering and residential construction. It is applied without a bond coat and qualifies for the re-profiling of fractured or broken surfaces, the application of leveling coats and fine filling work in layer thicknesses ranging from 3 to 30 mm. Nafufill KM 220 achieves a compressive strength of 24.5 N/mm² after 28 days at + 23 degree C and 50% relative humidity. It can be applied manually and is highly yielding due to low consumption values.
Nafufill KM 230 is a single-component, polymer-modified and fiber-reinforced repair mortar (PCC concrete replacement) suitable for the repair of concrete components in structural engineering construction as used in structurally relevant areas of industrial buildings, civil engineering and residential construction. Nafufill KM 230 achieves a compressive strength of 34 N/mm² after 28 days at + 23 degree C and 50 % relative humidity and can be applied in layer thicknesses ranging from 6 to 60 mm, either as a partial or a full-surface repair coating. It is characterized by its outstanding application properties and can be applied both manually and by spraying and is temperature and frost/thaw cycle resistant and features also de-icing salt resistance. With a fresh mortar application density of less than 2 kg/m², this product likewise offers exceptionally low consumption values.
