(57) Prefabricated building panels are commonly formed with surface relief patterns, typically by casting concrete over architectural components prepositioned in spaced-apart recesses in formliners or molds. Building panels formed using existing systems are often damaged when removed from the formliner or mold. In this regard the present invention provides an alternative system for forming prefabricated building panels comprising: a horizontal sheet comprising a single layer of plastic material; a grid pattern of slots formed in the horizontal sheet; and plastic spacers slidably or pressably receivable in the grid pattern, wherein each plastic spacer comprises a deformable head coextruded with a rigid base.
