Urban district protection against heavy rainfall
The Mehlem brook has a catchment area of about 18 km². The flow in the brook amounts to generally around 50 to 200 l/s. In July 2010, an extreme event occurred with a less than 1000-year frequency, in June 2013 and June 2016 there was a flood water flow with a 100-year frequency. In the extreme event of 2010, the existing outlet structure of the brook as well as the promenade and the bank wall of the river Rhine were washed away by erosions.
