Stoox by Sülzle: Contribution of sustainable reinforcing steel with a clear C02 footprint for reducing the emissions caused by the Hochbahn U5 Hamburg project

The U5 in Hamburg will be one of the most modern subway lines in Europe. It runs right through the city, will transport around 270,000 passengers a day and the frequency can be controlled “on demand” at peak times. Sustainability is already a top priority in the construction of the U5. You can find out more about Hochbahn U5 in the previous presentation.

Reinforcing steel, for which Sülzle Stahlpartner calculates a clear CO2 footprint and which, in addition, also complies with defined CO2 limits, is making a decisive contribution to reducing CO2 emissions in the construction of the U5.

The following factors make this success possible:

Knowledge of the supplier plants (keyword: EPD),

Steel obtained from electric arc furnaces with approx. 90 % recycled content,

Unambiguous material tracking through a digitized production process,

Adaptation of warehouse logistics for making low CO2 material separately available,

TÜV validated calculation logic of the product carbon footprint.
