28 years of Strotmann & Partner – development and
findings in concrete cosmetics

Concrete is more than a robust construction material with industry character – it is a central design element of modernism, post-modernism and minimalism. In upgrading architectural concrete surfaces it is important to examine every object individually and to take into consideration, and respect, the objectives and ideas of the client. As the concrete industry is growing, so do the demands made on the optics of architectural concrete walls in interior spaces and façades. A concrete builder can often not satisfy these high expectations. Concrete cosmetics offers here an aesthetically demanding solution. In 1997, Strotmann & Partner were the first to develop a concept for concrete cosmetics which has been successfully applied and continuously upgraded ever since. In the past decades, Strotmann & Partner has developed into a specialist for concrete cosmetics and concrete restoration and is today active worldwide. Based on its experience, continuous development and research, the company is able to master any challenge.

For special problems without solution approach, new concepts will be worked out on request. Typical damage in architectural concrete surfaces include spalling, broken edges and gravel pockets as well as aesthetic defects such as color deviations or soiling. Many construction companies try to remedy such damage and defects themselves to save costs. In most cases, however, the results of such work do not satisfy the aesthetic demands of architects and clients. Commissioning unqualified companies that offer their services at low cost, in our experience, leads also to negative results with regard to the aesthetics of the concrete and the additional cost. An artistic-restorative high-quality treatment is always a good alternative to demolition, painting, plastering or facing concrete walls because it saves both costs as well as satisfying aspects of climate and environmental protection.
