Driving Sustainability in the Concrete Industry
Sustainability has become one of the major factors that determine competitiveness. It is thus crucial for the future success of businesses that they set the right course in this regard – this also applies to the concrete industry. Specifiers and architects are increasingly looking for environmentally friendly building materials. These must have a low environmental impact and high energy efficiency whilst also considering relevant functional, design and economic aspects. The potential that concrete can offer in this respect is far from being utilized fully. “Sustainable Innovation” is the theme of the 55th BetonTage to be held from 8 to 10 February 2011 at the Edwin-Scharff-Haus congress center in Neu-Ulm. The event will once again present ground-breaking developments in concrete technology, manufacturing processes and products. The presentations in the product-specific panels will be complemented by contributions from structural engineers and commercial and legal experts.
Research as a driving force
Panel 1, “Application-oriented Research for Concrete”, will showcase the potential for innovation offered by concrete. State-of-the-art acceleration technologies, new findings on the workability and durability of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) and the behavior of highperformance concrete in the event of fire will be presented. Other topics to be discussed include the role of superabsorbents in concrete construction and the implications of the new Model Code for concrete structures.
Panel 5, “From Research to Practice”, will present new opportunities for...
