The memorial of the Bundeswehr in Berlin
A central place of commemoration, a place of public as well as private remembrance and sorrow – this is the memorial to all those who have lost their lives as members of the Bundeswehr (Federal Defense Forces) in the course of their military services to the Federal Republic of Germany.
The memorial has been designed by the architect professor Andreas Meck, who considers the place as “an interface between the Bundeswehr and the general public”. The block-shaped building on the site of the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin, which was inaugurated on September 8, 2009, consists of reinforced concrete elements. Sliding wall elements border the work of art at the side of the road and to the parade ground. The surface of the memorial is like a „dress made of bronze“, that decorates the concrete body, consists of punched identification tags being cut into halves.
