12,500 years ago, a giant volcano erupted on the edge of the Neuwied basin. Today, its traces are visible around Laach Lake, the crater of the former volcano, including extensive deposits of natural pumice.
In the region, Rotec operates open-pit quarries to extract the naturally expanded silicate rock. The company is a member of the Bisotherm sales organization. It uses special processing, separation and drying processes to produce high-tech lightweight aggregates from the silicate rock. Among other industries, these aggregates are in high demand in the dry mortar and construction chemicals sectors.
