The German community of Neckarwestheim, with more than 3500 inhabitants, is known far beyond its borders. This small town became prominent owing to the local power station, which was taken into service in 1989 as the last German nuclear power plant. Although the community suffers from numerous issues related to the close proximity of the plant, it does profit from the considerable trade taxes it receives from the plant operator, EnBW.
