Humboldt Forum: Germany‘s biggest cultural construction site
The Humboldt Forum is being built in the heart of Berlin. The precast producer Dreßler Bau supplied more than 2,500 precast concrete elements for the façade. The major project made high demands on production, logistics and installation.
The palace of electors, kings and the German emperors characterized the image of Berlin over 500 years. Though it was gutted by fire, it was substantially solid, anyhow, the deputy prime minister at that time, Walter Ulbricht, had the palace blown in 1950, which was a monument of reaction and feudalism, from his point of view. In this way, he created space for the Palace of the Republic, the „home of the people“, which was opened in 1976.
