In his welcoming speech of the 18th ibausil conference held in Weimar, Professor Dr.-Ing. Horst-Michael Ludwig addressed two of the major trends in building materials research: One of them comprises the topics of energy saving and sustainability. According to Ludwig, this field includes the development of resource-saving binders or sustainable building up to demolition and recycling. The second trend is the specialization and individualization of building materials including, for example, the development of special binders or special concrete grades for certain applications.
