Spiroll take Steppes into Kazakhstan

Earlier this year, another first was achieved for Spiroll with the supply of hollow-core production machinery to Kazakhstan. SKC Beton is the largest supplier of cement and building materials in the region, and is also supplying ready-mix concrete for construction facilities in the Akmola province, and beyond northern Kazakhstan. The company owns local stores retailing building materials, and a wholesale depot for cement storage and packing, complete with railway sidings. SKC also has a site currently being used to produce concrete blocks and other precast products for civil engineering.

Spiroll first met with SKC at the CTT International Show in Moscow during the summer of 2012. Within six months of the initial contact, at the International Concrete Conference in St. Petersburg, the two companies signed a contract for Spiroll to supply a complete package of equipment for the production of prestressed hollow-core slabs.

50,000 m2 of
housing per year

The contract included one Universal Extruder with a cassette to manufacture 220 mm deep slabs, a crosscut saw, bed cleaner and prestressing equipment. Similar to the previous project in Ukraine, the three 100 m long casting beds were installed by a team from Vikon, Spiroll’s Russian partners. Extra abutment pockets were also installed from the outset, allowing provision for the addition of two further beds in the future to increase capacity.

Commissioning of the first stage of equipment for the new Kokshetau factory took place during the last week of April. The initial project itself involved the construction of a two-bay plant, each bay 144 m long and 24 m wide, with the prospect to expand the building into a third bay. Once the plant reaches full capacity it will be producing 50,000 m2 of housing per year.

As well as the hollow-core machinery, the factory has a brand-new batching plant, tilting table and a universal casting bed for the production of reinforced concrete structures. These will ultimately be used in the construction of industrial buildings. The management of Vikon also assisted directly in this project, providing consultancy and implementing site works, including assembly and commissioning of equipment and machinery.

Excellent co-operation
between Spiroll and Vikon

The SKC factory is one of the region’s first precast factories dedicated to producing elements for housing construction, and will operate within the existing Republic of Kazakhstan state program, “Affordable Housing 2020”. This program is aimed at improving housing affordability for Kazakhstanis. The rapidly developing real estate market will become one of the key driving forces in the country’s economy, and give impetus to development of the construction industry as a whole.

Once again, the co-operation between Spiroll and Vikon has enabled a successful delivery on this contract. Not just in terms of equipment and machinery, but most importantly in ensuring that the plant was up and running quickly and efficiently, producing high-quality precast concrete from the outset.
