Successful graduation of specialized engineers from study course for block pavement construction
Following the successful start of the ongoing education initiative at the beginning of 2017, the second ongoing education study course for specialized engineers, specialized planners and specialized site supervisors for block pavement construction was successfully completed on 20 April 2018 in Dresden. EIPOS, the European Institute for Postgraduate Education at the Dresden University of Technology, conducted the course in collaboration with the Chair for Road Construction at TU Dresden.
The twelve participants had grappled with an entire range of issues concerning block pavement construction in 80 study sessions and had demonstrated their knowledge in a 90-minute written examination. Training to become a specialized engineer moreover included, for seven of the twelve graduates, a homework assignment planned for around 30 h, as well as an oral examination.
“We congratulate the freshly graduated specialized site supervisors and specialized engineers. We are especially pleased that six representatives from member companies of the Concrete Block Pavement Trade Association for Road, Landscape and Garden Construction (SLG) already participated in the first study course and successfully completed it,” said Dipl.-Ing. Dietmar Ulonska, Managing Director of the SLG.
Scholarships for the best students
Seven sponsoring associations and institutions, including the SLG Concrete Association, significantly supported the ongoing education program from the very beginning. “In our association we value basic and ongoing education highly,” says Ulonska. “That is the foundation for high-quality and durable block pavement construction methods. For this reason we have once again, as last year, set aside scholarships totaling 5,250 euros for the best students.
The Managing Director of the Federal Specialist Group for the Road and Underground Trade, Dipl.-Ing. Sebastian Geruschka, invited the three best specialized site supervisors and the three best specialized engineers on behalf of the Central Association of the German Construction Trade (ZDB to the 7th block paving convention, the German Pflastertage, on 25 and 26 February 2020 in Fulda, Germany.
Next course: early 2019
The third study course for specialists in block pavement construction will take place from 17 January to 10 May 2019, again in Dresden. Three different qualification courses, depending on admission requirements, are basically available: i.e., for specialist engineers, for specialist planners and for specialist site supervisors. The curriculum is divided into four seminar courses with a total of 80 instruction sessions. The participants are taught how to prepare qualified planning and correct bidding documentation, to correctly execute pavements and paving – as well as to supervise and conduct acceptance of construction work in accordance with good engineering practice.
