Thermally insulating ultra-lightweight building shells with integrated lightweight-steel structural framework
Within the scope of the project “Lightweight concrete construction with LAC+,” a new construction method of modular combinable wall and floor elements with a high degree of prefabrication is being developed: one which, owing to clear materiality, enables optimal return to the materials cycle. The new LAC+ is designed for densities around and below 400 kg/m³, as well as foam-filled interstitial pores. The monolithic wall system allows falling below the compressive strengths as well as the densities required in standards. Greater differences in stiffness in the structure of the concrete lead to greater deflection, stress peaks, an increase in tension loading in transverse direction and, finally, to failure. A concrete structure as homogeneously as possible would therefore be optimal. LAC+ is intended to approximate this theoretical case by optimized adjustment of the stiffness of such porous matrix and lightweight-concrete aggregate, to obtain an efficient relationship between the density and the loadbearing capacity of the concrete. Within a building component, non-stationary climate conditions generate time-dependent temperature distribution and/or movement. The progression of a temperature wave can be described by the coefficient of thermal conductivity, which is the quotient of the thermal conductivity and the thermal storage capacity.
