Blue Star, the CO2-reduced white cement, introduced
At the Ulmer BetonTage (20 to 22 June 2023), Dyckerhoff introduced its newly developed CO2-reduced Dyckerhoff Weiss Blue Star. The pozzolanic cement with the standard designation CEM IV/A (P) 42,5 R was approved by the VDZ in mid-June and has since then been in the delivery program of the Amöneburg plant. Compared to CEM I-cement types, around 15 %
less CO2 is released in production of Dyckerhoff Weiss Blue Star.
For some time, Dyckerhoff experts have been looking into alternative starting materials for white cement production in order to reduce the CO2 footprint. Apart from limestone flour, natural pozzolans proved to be especially suitable starting materials for replacing clinker. They are composed of silicic acid, alumina, limestone and alkalis. The interaction of silicic acid with calcium hydroxide (cement) and water results in a pozzolanic reaction.
Well-known brilliant white classification
Dyckerhoff Weiss has given building and design new momentum again and again for more than 90 years. With differentiation of types, (with the motto “Dyckerhoff WEISS – Strong types”), cement solutions for optimal use for a range of applications were already offered in the past. Cement types of higher fineness and therefore higher performance (52,5) for optimizing customer formulas through the use of various fillers, for example, were made available for optimizing the cement content.
Now, solutions are being developed that also propel the white cement into a CO2-efficient future. In this context, importance continues to be placed on the well-known brilliant white classification, and the brightness levels remain identical.
Short preview: In BFT International issue 10/2023, Dipl.-Bau-Ing. Dipl.-Wirtsch.-Ing. Martin Möllmann, responsible at Dyckerhoff for product marketing as well as for white cement sales (pictured right), will answer the questions of the BFT editorial staff on the newly developed CO2-reduced cement Dyckerhoff Weiss Blue Star.
