Sonocrete wins Innovation Award of the Supplier Industry

Sonocrete GmbH, Cottbus, is this year’s winner of the 2024 Innovation Award of the Supplier Industry for Concrete Components. The company won the Award for its high-performance ultrasound premixing system with which the challenges of CO2 emissions in the construction industry are to be taken on more intensively.

Bids to the Award have been invited since 2002 by FBF Betondienst GmbH, organizer of BetonTage, jointly with the technical magazine BFT International. The competition is intended to emphasize the significance of innovations for the entire precast sector and to offer a platform for the innovation potential of the supplier industry as a whole a platform. In BFT issues 6,7 and 8/2024 the 23 submissions will be presented in detail.

Winner: High-performance ultrasound premixing system

Conventional concrete production encounters obstacles when it comes to reducing CO2 emissions. Because the most important and until now also indispensable constituent in concrete, cement, also carries the heaviest emission rucksack. There already exist climate-friendly cements such as CEM II and CEM III. They have a lower clinker content than previously used cement types. However, they have the disadvantage that they let the concrete, as a rule, harden more slowly and therefore affect product cycles in precast plants and, accordingly, their economic efficiency.

This is exactly where Sonocrete begins. The Sonocrete premixing system accelerates the reaction of the cement and thereby the  hydration of the concrete with the aid of high-performance ultrasound. Entirely without the use of heat or chemical activators. In this way, the use of the Sonocrete system results in significant reduction of the cement and clinker content in the concrete formulation, without compromising early strength and quality. By this method, CO2 emissions in concrete production can be reduced by up to 30%.

Dr. Ricardo Remus, CEO at Sonocrete, gave free rein to his emotions: “We have already won a number of prizes as young start-up, and much praise, e.g. as ‘Company of the Year 2023 Brandenburg’’ about which we are, of course, very pleased. But this industry innovation award presented by such high-caliber expert jury is something very special. Many, many thanks.”
