The new DIN 1045 series from the perspective of precast
The new DIN 1045 series of standards was published in August 2023. The new DIN 1045-1000 is the overarching framework that defines the relationships between Parts 1 to 4 and 1000. In addition, the standard specifies the concept of “concrete construction quality” (CCQ). Communication should be optimized and standardized to achieve this quality.
There are two different CCQ concepts for structures or components made of cast-in-place concrete and structures or components made of precast concrete. For precast, a separate communication concept was developed to coordinate precast-specific issues among project stakeholders (irrespective of any CCQ classification). Grouping into CCQ classes is thus not required for precast elements; nor is it necessary to prepare a concrete construction concept.
DIN 1045-4 implements DIN EN 13369:2018-09 in German standardization. It consolidates DIN EN 13369 and the national application rules previously contained in DIN V 20000-120.
DIN 1045-40 is a national product standard for structural precast concrete products that do not fall within the scope of a harmonized European product standard (hEN).
DIN 1045-41 is based on the requirements documents for precast concrete products compiled in 2012 following the ECJ judgment in case C-100/13. It lists all requirements for precast concrete products for use in Germany. DIN 1045-41 thus functions as the interface between harmonized European product standards and national rules for design, execution, and use.
