Additional swell sealing ensures tightness
Introducing the “Awadock New Generation” Rehau AG + Co. has placed a new connection system on the market. This system has been furnished with an additional sealing, which in the case of a leakage, e.g., caused by a too large bore hole, begins to swell and thus closing the leakage again. The IKT (German Institute for Underground Infrastructure) has tested the connection system and awarded the seal “IKT-Tested”.
The new development of Rehau reveals: the findings of the IKT product test “house service connecting pieces” are still up-to-date. The test carried out in 2002 showed, among other things, that complying with stipulated bore tolerances may widely influence successful assembling of a connection element in practice. The new connection system “Awadock New Generation” of Rehau AG + Co. is now equipped with an activatable swell sealing in addition to the elastomer seal. This new swell sealing strip (green) is placed inside the elastomer seal in a groove. The additional sealing consists of a thermoplastic elastomer composite, which begins to swell when getting in contact with water and hence closes the leakage again.
The connection system Awadock still permits bore tolerances of 200 +2/–1 mm. However, according to manufacturer information, the new generation enables to ensure a tightness even in case of incorrectly large bore holes, inclined borings as well as uneven bore hole reveals. It was important for the manufacturer to get a neutral and independent opinion about the connection system. Therefore, he engaged the IKT to test the newly developed “Awadock New Generation” in accordance with the testing criteria of the IKT product test “house service connecting pieces” in respect of water-tightness. The tests have been carried out in standard bore holes of 200 +2/–1 mm and in addition at increased bore tolerances of up to 204 mm as well as in an inclined boring by five degrees into reinforced concrete pipes.
