Following the successful first edition of the Ratec Asia Seminar in November, Ratec GmbH and Ratec Asia hosted the practice-oriented workshop once again this year. Under the title “Better ideas in precast and modular construction” participants gained insights into fascinating industry knowledge through various presentations. The Ratec Asia Seminar was held in conjunction with the Philconstruct Manila in November and was fully-booked again this year.
With the Ratec Asia Seminar, the hosts of the event, Ratec and Ratec Asia, informed interested parties already active in the precast concrete sector or planning to enter it about the latest industry developments. “With the workshop we give participants a brief overview of the trends and state-of-the-art manufacturing concepts in the precast concrete industry. On the basis of case studies from the region, they find out about practical tips and recommendations”, explains Jörg Reymann, Managing Director of Ratec GmbH.
During the workshop, four top-class speakers provided insights into various aspects of precast concrete production: Lim Hui Yan, Head of Project and Demand Management (IBS) at Gamuda, Malaysia, took a look at the topic of automation. The topic of her presentation "Manufactured Homes - From Virtual to Reality" highlighted the benefits and significance of this technology in the industry today. Gamuda developed a new method for housing construction by incorporating the Industrialized Building System (IBS) concept into its construction projects. Gamuda’s IBS factory in Sepang is the first fully-automated robot-supported IBS factory in Malaysia. Lee Wai Fong, Director at DP Architects Singapore, shared his experience in the development of modular house designs and highlighted the tension between flexibility and variety on the one hand and the need for standardization on the other. Mark Kraft from Kraft Curing Systems provided participants with fundamental knowledge of concrete as a material, the curing process and the variables that optimize it and improve element quality. Raymond Chan, Director Ratec Asia Pte Ltd, closed out the workshop with a look at a series of best-practice examples from past projects. As was the case last year, the workshop was completely booked. Both familiar faces and a large number of new participants took part in the sessions. Jörg Reymann: “We have already had customers in the Philippines for over ten years and are experiencing strong demand for smart solutions for the production of precast concrete components. With speakers from the different areas, the seminar offered participants considerable added value. Besides it is “an outstanding possibility for participants to establish new contacts and exchange experiences” Jörg Reymann adds. The company is therefore planning the Ratec Asia Seminar for 2020 again.
