Prof. Joost Walraven

Nomination for Honorary Doctor of the University of Kassel

On the occasion of the academic ceremony the faculty of civil engineering of the University of Kassel held on July 2, 2009 has awarded an honorary doctorate to Prof. Dr. ir. Joost Walraven. Joost Walraven is teaching and researching at the TU Delft. His outstanding scientific work and his world-wide honored commitment in international boards and committees made a remarkable contribution to the fact that concrete is nowadays acknowledged as an innovative high-performance material.

Joost Walraven has made his scientific knowledge in more than 350 publications available to the professional world. The following works of him may especially be pointed out: his work on the behavior of concrete members under shear force and under impulsive load, on fracture mechanics, on the reduction of crack width, the rotation ability as well as on the shrinkage and creep behavior of concrete, on dimensioning of concrete structures in terms of durability, and on the bridge construction method with segmented precast concrete elements which is widely-used all over the world.
