Cage wall is granted technical approval for Germany
On June 1, 2017, the so-called “Korbwand” (cage wall) manufactured by Rapperstorfer Automation was officially approved by the German Institute for Structural Engineering (DIBt) in Berlin. The cage wall comprises a production process and a finished product: an innovative and fully automated production line, fitted with welding robots, can produce reinforcing bars for concrete walls to measure and in lot size 1, and weld them together to form flat reinforcement cages.
In Austria, the “Korbwand” was granted approval as early as October 2015; now, it is ready to conquer the German market. In doing so, the cage wall has made a huge step towards entering the international markets.
Fully automated process economizes on material
“The cage wall is put together by welding robots in a fully automated process. Obtaining the approval for the German market is an important step for Rapperstorfer Automation towards being able to market the fully automated cage wall production line on an international basis,” says Hubert Rapperstorfer, the owner and managing director of Rapperstorfer Automation based in the Austrian municipality of Steinhaus near Wels.
From the structural steel coil all the way to the completed steel cage in lot size 1, production is subject to a fully automated manufacturing process. All transport and production elements have been integrated into the plant. In comparison to conventional double walls, the cage wall requires only seven instead of the usual 44 steel connections per m² while offering increased stability at the same time. In addition, the process saves more than 90% of the normally used plastic parts.
