Futurology at bauma

On 15 April, Bauma begins in the German metropolis of Munich. This trade show, which takes place every three years, is once again the world’s largest trading center for construction machines. The organizers expect around 450,000 professional visitors and buyers from all over the world.

Apart from the machines showcased on the exhibition space of 570,000 m2 in around 20 halls and on the large outdoor exhibition grounds, scientific institutions present their latest research projects. Among them are projects aimed at making building of the future even more environmentally sound and sustainable. Hall B2 focuses on construction-materials recycling and Halls B1 and C1, also include reconditioning of concrete.

In construction-materials recycling, notable progress has been made in recent years. According to a current study, over 90 % of mineral construction waste in Germany is currently being used for environmentally compatible purposes – either properly disposed of or reused as substitute construction materials.

Concrete rubble is also reconditioned and primarily re-used in road and underground construction. Other research efforts can contribute to future use of recycled aggregates in building construction, to an extent more than is now common (see also “Opportunities and limitations of concrete recycling,” page 78).

Bauverlag and the editorial office of BFT International are represented at Bauma as well (Hall B4, Stand 201 and Hall B1, Stand 329/430). Those who are unable to visit us can keep informed with the BFT-Bauma Newsletter (registration at //www.bft-international.com" target="_blank" >www.bft-international.com:www.bft-international.com).
