New compact-design moisture measuring unit

The company Franz Ludwig GmbH has supplemented its range of mobile moisture measuring devices by an additional model: the FL-Profi Check Advanced. Its size takes into consideration customers’ wishes for an even more compact design; in terms of accuracy and functionality, both systems are equivalent (Fig. 1).

Wireless capability is also important for this measuring unit, which makes it fit for use in future-oriented modes of operation based on Industrie 4.0. Already existing and familiar electronic devices such as tablets and smartphones can be used for operating the measuring device. This feature, moreover, has an economic and ecological aspect. A wide range of commercially available accessories – for example, protective covers (Fig. 2) and bracelets – enables user-friendly handling with the measuring system, even in rough and difficult environments.

Free wireless updates

Intuitive operation of smartphones has also inspired development of the operator software for the moisture-measuring unit. Especially when Profi-Check Advanced is not used on a daily basis, the necessary procedure must be plausible and easy to understand. Continuous further development of functionality and performance of the mobile user devices will also generate an additional benefit for users.

Owing to the separate configuration of measuring device and operating unit, the entire computing capacity is available for processing the measuring signals within the device. Incorrect operation or a dirty measuring display are among the conditions that the sensor recognizes, which significantly increases precision and functionality. The archive of calibration plots, the measurement data storage functions, and their transmission take place within the familiar operating structure of the terminal device.

Users benefit from continuous further development based on free WLAN software updates such as supplementary calibration plots. These are automatically included in the existing archive, so that it is no longer necessary to return the unit to the manufacturer for carrying out these procedures. In addition, users can store their own plots in unlimited numbers.

One and the same unit can be used for measuring and outputting data on such as the following: a range of various aggregates in moisture %, no-slump concrete based on its w/c ratio, and plastic and/or ready-mix concretes as l/m³. This multi-functional feature, according to the manufacturer, makes the presented measuring system unique.
