Digitalization unlocks full potential
Prefaco Oeterbeton, a renowned precast producer based in Belgium, has recently completed a ground-breaking transformation of its operations thanks to Ebos, Progress Group’s specialized Manufacturing Execution System (MES). Known for its expertise in the manufacture of double walls and floor slabs, Prefaco Oeterbeton sought a comprehensive solution to improve its production processes.
Seamless machine-to-machine communication
In August 2023, the Ebos MES was implemented at Prefaco Oeterbeton. This was not just about implementing a software suite since Prefaco Oeterbeton also upgraded the M-System mesh welding line and integrated a Form Master shuttering robot and a Versa lattice girder welding unit from Progress Group. The MES also works seamlessly with a third-party carousel line and the ERP system, thus creating a fully integrated production environment. The previous manual processes for sending CAD data to the machines and forecasting scheduling were less efficient and flexible.
This newly gained flexibility allows Prefaco Oeterbeton to improve productivity through features such as pallet allocation and semi-automated pallet guidance while integrating key features such as quality control and smart production. Luc Lenaerts, Project Lead at Prefaco Oeterbeton, says: “The system’s real strength lies in its flexibility and ability to adapt automatically. It’s remarkable how seamlessly the machines communicate with each other.”
Competitive edge thanks to digitalization
Digitalization brings a significant advantage to the construction industry. In today’s fast-paced world, digitalization turned out to be a game changer for the precast industry. Over the years, the integration of advanced technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), cloud-based collaboration platforms, and automation tools has revolutionized the way project management, communication, and productivity are approached. Using advanced tools, precasters can visualize projects in a virtual environment for better planning, coordination, and error detection. Not only does this approach streamline workflows; it also minimizes costly rework and delays. Cloud-based collaboration platforms enable real-time sharing of project information and promote seamless collaboration between teams, stakeholders, and partners. This instant sharing of data and feedback promotes transparency, facilitates quick decision-making, and accelerates project schedules. Leveraging these state-of-the-art technologies enables construction contractors to take efficiency, quality, and sustainable construction to the next level.
Greater efficiency, adaptability, and integration
In conclusion, the collaboration between Prefaco Oeterbeton and Progress Group and the implementation of the Ebos MES revolutionized the production of precast elements. Luc Lenaerts also highlighted the close cooperation between the Prefaco and Progress teams, which allowed for timely system migration. Greater efficiency, adaptability, and integration mean that Prefaco Oeterbeton is in an outstanding position to remain an industry leader and set new standards for quality and innovation in the years to come.
