Decorative precast element surfaces thanks to LiquidForm

In the production of precast concrete and sandwich panels, modern precast plants place great emphasis on high surface quality and maximum efficiency. Top-quality precast element surfaces include architectural concrete, elaborately textured designs, or surfaces adorned with decorative elements. In this quest, precast producers focus on solutions that not only conserve resources but also integrate seamlessly into the overall workflow. To meet these increasing demands, B.T. innovation GmbH based in Magdeburg, Germany, is continuously improving its in-house formwork solutions.

B.T. innovation has developed the LiquidForm system for producing top-class decorative precast element surfaces on formwork tables, tilt tables, and carousel systems. For this purpose, decorative elements are placed in the form according to individual requirements. They can include brick slips, natural stone, quarry stone, etc.

Prefabricated façade panels covered with brick slips

The production of brick-covered façade panels measuring 700 cm × 300 cm was implemented successfully using this method. The formwork was lined with brick slips to design the façade panels. Spaces between the slips were filled with the LiquidForm solution, a liquid grouting compound that is easy to wash off at a later stage. The liquid was exceedingly easy to make: LiquidForm is a powder that dissolves in hot water and is poured between the brick slips to fill the voids.

Sustainable custom solutions

LiquidForm revolutionizes the surface finishing of precast elements. This innovative product enables easy and environmentally friendly finishing of concrete elements produced at the precast plant. Focusing on quality and sustainability, BT innovation offers advanced technologies to improve construction processes.

Straightforward process

The process begins by placing the decorative elements in a form. LiquidForm is then dissolved in hot water and poured into the spaces between the elements at approximately 60°C. The self-leveling liquid flows around the elements and solidifies within about 30 to 60 minutes, holding the elements firmly in place in the form. Once the liquid has set, concrete is poured onto the treated surface. The elements protruding from the LiquidForm are embedded in the concrete. The level of LiquidForm in the form determines the depth of the recesses between the decorative elements. Once the element is complete, LiquidForm is easy to remove using hot water and a brush or high-pressure cleaner, resulting in a high-quality finished component.

Fields of application

LiquidForm is perfectly suited to producing surface-finished prefabricated concrete components in precast plants, providing a flexible solution for the construction industry.
